COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
COATED ABRASIVE PAPER, FLINT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification P-P-105C.
This commercial item description covers paper sheets and rolls coated on one surface with flint abrasive.
Salient characteristics:
1. Flint paper shall be of the following types and grit sizes.
Type I- Sheets, 9 x 10 inches, closed coat.
Grit sizes- Extra fine, fine, medium, coarse, extra coarse.
Type II- Rolls, 50 yards long, widths as specified, closed coat.
Grit sizes- Extra fine, medium, coarse, extra coarse.
2. The abrasive shall be curshed from clean, hard abrasive grade quartz, quartizite or flint graded in accordance with requirements of ANSI B74.18.
3. The final product shall be “closed coat”.
4. The backing shall be a good quality paper.
5. The product shall meet the requirements in table I below.

(1) Backing weights and breaking strength are measured after sample are in moisture equilibrium with an atmosphere of 50 + 2% humidity at 21o + 1oC (70o + 2o F)
The issue of ANSI B74.18 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Workmanship. The workmanship shall be equal to or better in every respect than that which is considered good practice by industry.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
