COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAPER, ABRASIVE, SILICON CARBIDE, WATERPROOF
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification P-P-101E.
This description covers waterproof abrasive paper, coated on
one surface with silicon carbide grain.
Salient characteristics:
1. Waterproof abrasive paper shall be in the following grit sizes (grades) as specified: 600, 500, 400, 360, 320, 280, 240, 220, 180, 150, 120, 100, 80, and 60.
2. The abrasive grain shall be crushed from abrasive grade silicon carbide graded in accordance with ANSI B74.18.
3. The final product shall be closed coat. The abrasive grain shall completely and uniformly cover the surface of the backing.
4. The backing paper used shall be of a quality suitable for the intended use and treated with a saturant which will render it waterproof.
5. The adhesive shall be of a good quality drying oil, varnish or other suitable adhesive which will minimumize dislodging of the grain from the backing under hard wet or dry usage of the coated product. Bonding of the abrasive grain to the backing shall be equal to u better than that considered good commercial quality.
6. The coated product shall meet the requirements listed in TABLE I below:
