COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAPER, ABRASIVE (GARNET COATED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification P-P-121D,
Classes 1, 2, 3, and 7
This commercial item description covers paper sheets and rolls, coated on one surface with garnet abrasive grain.
Salient characteristics:
1. Garnet abrasive paper shall of the following classes and grit sizes as specified.
Class 1- sheets, finishing, open coat:
Grit sizes- 280, 240, 220, 180, 150, 120, 100, 80, 60, 50, 40, and 36
Class 2- Sheets, closed coat:
Grit sizes- 220, 180, 150, 120, 100, 80, 60, 50, 40 and 36
Class 3- Roll, closed coat:
Grit sizes- 220, 180, 150, 120, 100, 80, 60, 50, 40, 36 and 24
Class 4- Sheet, finishing, open coat, non-loading type.
Grit sizes- 280, 240, 220, and 180
2. Unless otherwise specified, a sheet shall be 9 x 11 inches; roll shall be 50 yards long, widths as specified.
3. The abrasive grain shall be crushed from clean, hard, abrasive grade garnet, graded in accordance with the requirements of ANSI Standard B74.18.
4. The backing shall be of good quality rope- or wood fiber paper.
5. The product shall conform to the requirements of table I below:
