COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CLOTH, ABRASIVE AND PAPER, ABRASIVE (EMERY)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Federal Specification
P-C-1673 which is canceled
This commercial item description covers abrasive cloth and abrasive paper, coated on one surface with emery grain.
Salient characteristics.
1. Emery sheets shall be of the following types and sizes as specified:
Type I- Cloth, 9 x 11 inches, unless otherwise specified.
Grit sizes- Fine, medium, coarse, and extra coarse.
Type II- Paper, 9 x 13-3/4 inches, unless otherwise specified.
Grit sizes- 800, 600, 400, 360 and 280.
2. Grading of abrasive grain for type I products shall be in accordance with the requirements of ANSI Standard B74.18.
3. The final product shall be “closed coat”.
4. Backing:
Type I- Jeans cloth.
Type II- 67 pound kraft paper (24 x 36-480 sheets or 114 grams per square meter).
5. The abrasive grain shall be crushed from abrasive grade emery.
6. The type I product shall meet the requirements of Table I below:

(1) Backing weights and breaking strengths are measured after samples are in moisture equilibrium with an atmosphere or 50 + 7 percent relative humidity at 21 + 1 degrees C (70 + 2 degrees F).
