COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STEEL WOOL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification FF-W-1825.
This commercial item description covers steel wool used as an abrasive for cleaning and polishing.
Salient characteristics:
1. Steel wool shall be of carbon or stainless steel and the following types and classes, as specified:
Type I- Fine
Type II- Medium
Type III- Medium
Type IV- Coarse
Type V-Coarse
Class 1- Rolls
Class 2- Pads
2. Thickness of individual fibers shall be in accordance with table I below.

3. Rolls shall be in accordance with standard commercial packaging practice.
4. Pads shall be formed from ribbon which is a minimum of 3-3/4 inches (95 mm) in width.
