5. Weight of rolls shall be as specified.
Workmanship. Steel wool shall be of uniform quality. It shall be free from foreign material, rust; chips; and defects which render the material unsuitable for use. It shall be free from short ends and shall not mat or wad easily in use.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract .or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein except as otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable, for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure that supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
Sampling.
Lot. All pads or rolls of the same type and class presented for inspection at one time shall ‘be considered a lot for purposes of inspection.
Sampling for tests. Sampling for tests shall be in accordance with level S-3 of MIL-STD-105. The AQL for teats shall be 4.0 percent defective. The sample unit sample shall be one pad or roll.
Sampling for visual examination. Sampling for visual examination shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105, special inspection level S-3, AQL 4.0 expressed in terms of percent defective.
Visual examination. The sample pads or rolls shall be visually examined to verify type, class, and workmanship requirements.
Test, thickness. Measure 25 fibers of each pad tested for maximum lateral dimension under a 50 x or greater magnification using a reticle suitable for measuring the fiber width in thousandths of an inch.
Examination for preparation for delivery. A random sample of unit, intermediate and shipping containers (as ‘applicable) shall be selected from each lot and examined for conformance with the preservation, packaging, packing, labeling and marking required in the contract or order. Samples shall be selected in accordance with MIL-STD-105, Inspection level II, ‘AOL 6.5 expressed in terms of defects per hundred units.
